Softball Recap: St. Clair Snags Sixth Win in Last Eight Games

After losing to Marysville the last time they met, St. Clair decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Saints walked away with an 8-4 win over the Vikings on Monday.

Hayley McFarlane spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, St. Clair let Gracie Pickelhaupt and Maliyah Smith run wild. Pickelhaupt went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Smith went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those three runs gave Smith a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kadie Badger, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

St. Clair is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-2-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Marysville, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 9-3.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. St. Clair is set to face off against their familiar foe Utica at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Marysville will take on rival L'Anse Creuse North at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
