Basketball Recap: Carson Takes a Loss

Carson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 45-40 heartbreaker at the hands of the Central Cabarrus Vikings. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 58-41 back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, Carson saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Rylee Hedrick dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 boards. The dominant performance also gave Hedrick a new career-high in assists (four).

Even though they lost, Carson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in nine consecutive matchups.

Central Cabarrus got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Daniyah Burton out in front who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. Burton has been hot for a while, having posted nine or more boards the last ten times she's played. Another player making a difference was Louella Blanchard, who went 5 of 11 en route to 13 points.

Carson's defeat dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Central Cabarrus, their win bumped their record up to 7-10.

Carson wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 62-53 victory against West Rowan on the 24th. As for Central Cabarrus, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 63-48 loss against East Rowan on the 24th.
