Basketball Recap: George Jenkins Comes Up Short

It was a good run, but George Jenkins unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They were dealt a 100-40 loss at the hands of the Tampa Catholic Crusaders. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 373rd, while the Crusaders are ranked 46th).

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maso Pierpont, who posted ten points. Another player making a difference was Cameron Sanders, who scored six points.

It was another big night for Willie Piggott, who went 13 for 16 on his way to 29 points for Tampa Catholic. The team also got some help courtesy of Colby Cannizzaro, who had 13 points and three steals.

George Jenkins' defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-8. As for Tampa Catholic, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. George Jenkins has already played their next contest (against Auburndale), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Tampa Catholic will square off against Leesburg at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Tampa Catholic's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight matchups.
