Football Recap: Kountze Lions vs. Hemphill Hornets
Kountze took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They strolled past the Hemphill Hornets with points to spare, taking the game 37-20. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Lions as it put an end to their three-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Leading Kountze to victory were Camden Johnson and D'Keylind Taylor. Johnson rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries, while Taylor rushed for 82 yards and two touchdowns. Johnson got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run and that went for an incredible 61 yards. Draylen Coffey made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Kountze wouldn't let Hemphill keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Kountze can thank Mason Brothers and Cj Barrs for forcing both of them. Barrs also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing a fumble and making eight total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Kountze will have plenty of time to enjoy the victory as they don't play again for a while. They'll take on Huntington at 7:00 p.m. on September 13th. As for Hemphill, they will head out to square off against Waskom on Friday.
