Son of NFL legend Jerry Rice will be impact player for perennial Arizona power down the road.
He carries the same last name and bloodline of whom many agree is the greatest wide receiver in the history of the NFL. But Brenden Rice is definitely out to make a name for himself.
The 6-foot-2, 175-pound freshman at
Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) is a promising wide receiver and defensive end on the freshman team. He's the son of Hall of Famer Jerry Rice and stepson of Rick Cunningham, a former lineman at Texas A&M and the Arizona Cardinals.
Hamilton is a perennial Arizona power which has also earned its way into the national rankings. Varsity coach Steve Belles told Richard Obert of the
Arizona Republic that Brenden has "great hands," and will play varsity football as a sophomore.
He also shows great breakaway speed and a long stride like his father as seen on his highlight tape above. Brenden also makes a lot of big plays from his defensive end spot.
Freshmen rarely play varsity football at Chandler and Belles told Obert that he "wants those kids to know their class, too, and never lose sight of that."
Brenden said he doesn't talk to his father much and that Cunningham, who also is an assistant coach on the freshman team, "has been a role model for me and kept me going on the right path."
