Michael Gilchrist of St. Patrick (Elizabeth, N.J.) remains No. 1 in MaxPreps.com's Class of 2011 Top 100, but his grip on the top spot isn't nearly as firm as it was a year ago with a handful of challengers making up ground on the star forward.

It's not that Gilchrist's game is slipping. His high school team is 56-6 against a national schedule over the past two seasons with a state title in 2009. St. Patrick likely would have gone back-to-back had it not been banned from New Jersey's postseason in 2010.

The 6-foot-7 future Kentucky Wildcat averaged 14.8 points and 7.2 rebounds at the FIBA U17 World Championship in July as the United States dominated en route to a gold medal. Though MVP honors went to teammate Bradley Beal (No. 5 in the Top 100), Gilchrist had two of the more dominant individual performances in the event with 22 points and 15 rebounds against Argentina and 30 points and 15 boards against Canada in the semifinals.

Austin Rivers checks in at No. 2. After a state championship season at Winter Park (Winter Park, Fla.) as a junior, the 6-3 shooting guard also shined at the international level over the summer. Competing for the USA U18 team on a roster consisting primarily of college-bound players, he posted 20.2 points per game in five contests – all wins – at the FIBA Americas Championship.

No. 3 Adonis Thomas and No. 4 Beal teamed with Gilchrist on the U17 championship team. Beal had a monster summer, capturing MVP honors in Germany after putting up 18.3 points per game. He also led the St. Louis Eagles club team to tournament finals at the Peach Jam (Nike's Elite Youth Basketball League finale) and the AAU Nationals in Florida.
