Basketball Recap: Weston Driggers and Finley Bryant Secure Win for Wheatmore

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Ledford, Wheatmore was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They came out on top against the Southwestern Randolph Cougars by a score of 62-52. For the Warriors, this counts as revenge for the 51-24 victory the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Wheatmore was led to victory by Finley Bryant and Weston Driggers. Bryant went 6 for 11 on his way to 20 points, while Driggers dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. The dominant performance also gave Driggers a new career-high in assists (five). Truman Auman was another key player, putting up nine points and seven rebounds.

Wheatmore is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 7-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.5 points per game. As for Southwestern Randolph, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wheatmore will challenge Providence Grove at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th. Providence Grove is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.6 points per game this season. As for Southwestern Randolph, they will take on Uwharrie Charter Academy at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th.
