Basketball Game Preview: Ponte Vedra Sharks vs. Ribault Trojans

The Ponte Vedra Sharks will take on the Ribault Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Friday, Ponte Vedra earned a 61-48 victory over Nease. Given the Sharks' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while the Panthers are ranked 235th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Trace Westercamp, who went 8 of 12 en route to 20 points along with eight rebounds and seven blocks. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in assists (three). Maddox Palmer was another key player, going 6 for 10 on his way to 14 points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Ponte Vedra was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nease only racked up eight assists.

Ribault's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to University Christian on Thursday. Ribault really took it to ED White for the full four quarters, racking up an 85-42 win. The Trojans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 22 points or more this season.

Ribault pushed their record up to 17-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.7 points per game. As for Ponte Vedra, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 15-8.

Ponte Vedra came out on top in a nail-biter against Ribault when the teams last played back in January of 2023, sneaking past 44-42. Does Ponte Vedra have another victory up their sleeve, or will Ribault turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
