Recap: Eastside Blazers vs. Smith Academy Fighting 54th
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against DeKalb, the Eastside Blazers were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They breezed by Smith Academy at home to the tune of 57-24. With Eastside ahead 36-11 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Eastside's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Clayton Minnick led the charge by scoring 15 points along with 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryder Reed, who scored 9 points along with 5 steals.
The win got Eastside back to even at 1-1. As for Smith Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Eastside will take on Fort Wayne Canterbury at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Fort Wayne Canterbury focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday. As for Smith Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Whitko at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Whitko presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Smith Academy in Indiana (Whitko is ranked 138th, while Smith Academy is ranked 313th).
