Phillipsburg picks up ninth straight win at home

Recap: Phillipsburg Stateliners vs. Gill St. Bernard's Knights

The Phillipsburg Stateliners entered their tilt with the Gill St. Bernard's Knights with ten consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 11. Phillipsburg came out on top against Gill St. Bernard's by a score of 62-55 on Monday. Given Phillipsburg's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while Gill St. Bernard's is ranked 97th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Phillipsburg to victory were Ameer Herran and Matthew Scerbo Jr.. Herran scored 16 points along with eight rebounds, while Scerbo Jr. scored 30 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Scerbo Jr. has scored all season. Andrew Martin was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with nine rebounds.

Phillipsburg pushed their record up to 11-1 with that victory, which was their ninth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.6 points per game. As for Gill St. Bernard's, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Phillipsburg won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Colonia at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Colonia will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Gill St. Bernard's, they will head out on the road to face off against Immaculata at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
