Baseball Recap: Wellsville Victorious

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Wellsville ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Catholic Central Crusaders 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since April 26, 2024.

Tyler Landess was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tyrell Watkins, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-5. Those runs marked the first that he scored this season. Another player making a difference was Cooper Frank, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI.

Wellsville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Wellsville's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Catholic Central, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

Coming up, Wellsville will venture away from home to take on East Palestine at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Catholic Central, they will square off against Bishop Rosecrans at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
