Football Game Preview: Somerset Bulldogs vs. Uvalde Coyotes/Lobos (for girls)

Somerset is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. They will head out on the road to take on the Uvalde Coyotes/Lobos (for girls) at 7:00 p.m. Somerset's defense has only allowed 14 points per game this season, so Uvalde's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Somerset is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Jourdanton 48-13 last Friday. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by 23 points or more this season.

Somerset's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Malakai Iverson led the charge by picking up 131 receiving yards and three TDs. Iverson's receiving production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 102 receiving yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleb Flores, who threw for 209 yards and three touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Uvalde's offense. They were beaten by Fredericksburg 31-0 on Friday. The Coyotes/Lobos (for girls) just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

The victory made it two in a row for Somerset and bumps their season record up to 3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 27 points in those games. As for Uvalde, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Somerset took their victory against Uvalde when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 35-15 score. In that matchup, the Bulldogs amassed a halftime lead of 21-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
