Softball Game Preview: Brewer Bears vs. Saginaw Rough Riders

Brewer and Saginaw are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2017, but likely not for long. The Bears will welcome the Rough Riders at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Saginaw took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Brewer, who comes in off a win.

Brewer's hitters will try to repeat the strong performance they gave on Friday, when they got past Fossil Ridge's usually-dominant pitching crew. The Bears came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 11-6. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bears.

Sylver Orebaugh looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Avery Welch, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Alyssa Wilson was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.

Meanwhile, Saginaw was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss. They lost 16-0 to Azle.

Saginaw's defeat dropped their record down to 3-19. As for Brewer, their victory bumped their record up to 14-11.

Saginaw's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Brewer hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .342. It's a different story for Saginaw, though, as they've only averaged .130. Will they be able to contain Brewer's hitters?

Everything went Brewer's way against Saginaw when the teams last played back in March, as Brewer made off with an 18-2 win. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Rough Riders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
