Basketball Recap: Victoria East Falls Despite Big Games from Keyala Mathis and Avery Valentine

On Friday, the Victoria East Titans were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 47-42 to the Fort Bend Marshall Buffalos.

Victoria East's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Avery Valentine, who posted 19 points, and Keyala Mathis, who put up nine points and five rebounds. That's the most points Valentine has posted since back in December of 2023.

Victoria East's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-10. As for Fort Bend Marshall, they pushed their record up to 17-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Victoria East wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 53-51 win against Lamar Consolidated on the 7th. As for Fort Bend Marshall, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 49-45 victory against Victoria West on the 7th.
