Basketball Game Preview: El Rancho Dons vs. South El Monte Eagles

The El Rancho Dons will take on the South El Monte Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

El Rancho is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Wilson just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They took a 52-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Andrew Morones, who shot 43% from the field en route to 14 points and three steals. That was a full 35% of El Rancho's points, marking the fifth time in a row Morones has posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of William Soria, who put up ten points and three steals.

Meanwhile, South El Monte scored the most points they've had this season on Wednesday, but it wasn't enough. They lost 81-58 to Los Altos. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (57), the Eagles still had to take the loss.

El Rancho's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for South El Monte, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.

El Rancho beat South El Monte 50-37 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dons since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
