Basketball Recap: Mound City Comes Up Short

Mound City lost against Rock Port back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Mound City Panthers had to suffer through a 67-36 loss at the hands of the Rock Port Blue Jays. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 441st, while the Blue Jays are ranked 161st).

Rock Port's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brock Holmes led the charge by going 7 of 13 on his way to 17 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Reid Ellis, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Mound City and nudges their season record down to 10-20. As for Rock Port, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 16 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mound City will head out to face off against Nodaway-Holt at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Rock Port, they will head out on the road to square off against Stanberry at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
