Softball Recap: Independence Continues Home Dominance on Friday

Independence got themselves on the board against Garinger on Friday, but Garinger never followed suit. They blew past the Wildcats 17-0. The victory continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won nine in a row.

Michaela Williams was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 1-for-3. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Independence got a massive performance out of Emma Wrangham, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Wrangham has posted since back in March. Gianna McCloud was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Independence was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in eight consecutive contests.

Independence pushed their record up to 14-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Garinger, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Independence beat the Wildcats by a score of 16-0 later that day.
