Baseball Recap: John Carroll Catholic Starts off Right with Win over Okeechobee

John Carroll Catholic gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Okeechobee Brahmans an 8-0 shutout. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Rams have posted against the Brahmans since March 23, 2016.

Brycen Payne looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brennan Jones, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Preston Sullivan was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Okeechobee's loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2-1.

Coming up, John Carroll Catholic will host Sebastian River at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Okeechobee, they will take on Port St. Lucie at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
