Baseball Game Preview: Pinewood Panthers vs. Summit Shasta Black Bears

For the second straight game, Pinewood will face off against Summit Shasta. The Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Black Bears at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

On Tuesday, Pinewood didn't have quite enough to beat Summit Shasta and fell 4-3. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Black Bears recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Jamie Burton put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Burton wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Zaiden Saberi, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Saberi has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Matt Brown also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Summit Shasta's victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-7. As for Pinewood, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Pinewood has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Summit Shasta struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
