With a playoff win on the line, Jefferson Forest rose to the challenge on Monday. They skirted past the Halifax County Comets 3-1. Winning may never get old, but the Cavaliers sure are getting used to it with their ninth in a row.

Amelia Long spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Jefferson Forest let Ella Walker and Lauren Smith run wild. Walker went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI, while Smith went 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run was Walker's first of the season.

Jefferson Forest lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Jefferson Forest's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Halifax County, their loss dropped their record down to 16-8.

As of now, neither Jefferson Forest nor the Comets have any future games scheduled.
