Baseball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Mountain Heritage's Fifth in Last Six Outings

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Mountain Heritage had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Leadership Academy Falcons by a score of 9-2 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). Considering the Cougars have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Caden Carrol made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Mountain Heritage's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 7-11 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Mountain Heritage got a massive performance out of Brayden Deyton, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The Cougars are undefeated when Deyton posts two or more runs, but 4-11 otherwise. Branson Fox was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Mountain Heritage hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 3-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Mountain Heritage is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Leadership Academy, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-10.

Coming up, Mountain Heritage will head out on the road to challenge Swain County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Maroon Devils have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. Leadership Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
