Gibault Catholic proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 11) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Valmeyer Pirates 7-6. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 14-2 victory back in April.

Gibault Catholic's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ashley Murphy, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was Murphy's first of the season. Chloe Lancaster was another, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one double and one RBI.

Gibault Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 9-13. As for Valmeyer, they dropped their record down to 2-12 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Coming up, Gibault Catholic will face off against Marissa/Coulterville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Hawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Meteors have averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season. As for Valmeyer, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Sparta at 4:30 p.m. on the 29th.
