Baseball Recap: Manassas Park Cougars vs. Handley Judges
Manassas Park had lost four straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 2-10 to make it five. They lost 19-2 to the Handley Judges. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Judges this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-4 back in March.
Ethan Casey was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Xavier Tickle also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
As for Handley, they moved to 4-9 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. That looming 19-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.
On Handley's side, Jake Swartz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Swartz was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Eli Shelton was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Rutledge Patterson was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two doubles.
