Soccer Game Preview: Somerset Academy vs. South Broward

The Somerset Academy Panthers will head out to face off against the South Broward Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Somerset Academy is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Cypress Bay just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They came up short against the Lightning, falling 5-1. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 81st, while the Lightning are ranked 11th).

Somerset Academy's goal came courtesy of Arianna Peck, who's now up to eight this season.

Meanwhile, South Broward kept a clean sheet against Miramar last Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Patriots as they made off with an 8-0 win. Considering the Bulldogs have won seven games by more than three goals this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

South Broward is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which somehow still isn't as good as their 10-2-1 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 27 goals over those five matches. As for Somerset Academy, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-4.

Somerset Academy took their victory against South Broward in their previous matchup back in January of 2024 by a conclusive 5-2. Does Somerset Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will South Broward turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
