Softball Recap: Centennial Starts off Right with Win over Lake Ridge

Centennial had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Everything went their way against the Lake Ridge Eagles on Thursday as the Centennial Bulldogs made off with an 8-1 win.

Sloane Merrell was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.

In other pitching news, Audrina Perez looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, Campbell Cole and Madden Turner did most of the damage at the plate: Cole scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Turner went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Valeria Lopez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Lake Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

Centennial wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, an 8-1 loss against Southlake Carroll on the 27th. As for Lake Ridge, they have also already played their next game, an 11-1 victory against Eagle Mountain on the 27th.
