Recap: West Craven Eagles vs. Havelock Rams
The West Craven Eagles took care of business in their home opener on Tuesday. They managed a 47-41 win over Havelock. That's another feather in the cap for West Craven, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Jamez Simmons was the offensive standout of the game as he scored 12 points along with 4 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Amari Boomer, who scored 6 points along with 11 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Havelock's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chris Strong, who scored 17 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Strong scored a full 41.5% of Havelock's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Cole Furniss, who scored 5 points.
West Craven's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Havelock, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
West Craven will be playing in front of their home fans against New Bern at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully New Bern focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Thursday. As for Havelock, they will head out on the road to face off against West Carteret at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Carolina (West Carteret is ranked 197th, while Havelock is ranked 195th).
