Kalamazoo Christian is a perfect 7-0 against Galesburg-Augusta since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. Kalamazoo Christian's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Gull Lake 10-0. That's two games straight that the Comets have won by exactly ten runs.
Cecile Ybema and Reese Gernaat did most of the damage at the plate: Ybema went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Gernaat went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and three runs. Another player making a difference was Madalyn Vlietstra, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with three runs.
Kalamazoo Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Galesburg-Augusta was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They came up short against Climax-Scotts, falling 13-2.
Galesburg-Augusta saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lilli Thompson, who went 1-for-2 with one home run. Emily Coleman was another, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Kalamazoo Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for Galesburg-Augusta, their loss dropped their record down to 4-18.
Galesburg-Augusta's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Kalamazoo Christian has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Galesburg-Augusta, though, as they've been averaging 8.7 hits. Given Kalamazoo Christian's sizable advantage in that area, the Rams will need to find a way to close that gap.
