Palmer and Mesa Ridge are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but not for long. The Terrors will venture away from home to take on the Grizzlies at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Palmer is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
On Tuesday, Palmer got the win against Harrison by a conclusive 3-0.
Palmer never let Harrison on the board, but things got pretty close in the second set. The final score came out to 25-19, 25-22, 25-16.
Palmer can attribute much of their success to Taytum Soppe-Cope, who had 11 digs and seven aces, and Audrenna Gemmeke-Hall, who had six digs and five aces. That's the most aces Soppe-Cope has posted since back in August. Evelyn Sheridan also deserves some recognition as she had her first digs of the season.
They weren't the only good servers: Palmer was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 18 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least nine aces in six consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Mesa Ridge hadn't done well against Coronado recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Grizzlies came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 3-1. The win continues a trend for the Grizzlies in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won three in a row.
Mesa Ridge was especially dominant in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 25-14, 20-25, 25-22.
Palmer's record is now 10-5. As for Mesa Ridge, their record now sits at 4-11.
Palmer was able to grind out a solid victory over Mesa Ridge in their previous matchup back in September, winning 2-0. Will the Terrors repeat their success, or do the Grizzlies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
