Basketball Game Preview: St. Albans Red Dragons vs. Huntington Highlanders

The St. Albans Red Dragons will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Huntington Highlanders at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (St. Albans has three straight wins, Huntington has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Thursday, St. Albans strolled past Capital with points to spare, taking the game 64-49.

Jaycee Elzy was nothing short of spectacular: she went 13 of 20 on her way to 28 points and six steals. The match was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Samyah Riggan, who posted 17 points and six steals.

St. Albans smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Huntington scored the most points they've had this season on Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Spring Valley an easy 70-44 victory.

St. Albans' win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Huntington, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

St. Albans came up short against Huntington in their previous matchup back in January, falling 49-41. Can St. Albans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
