Basketball Recap: Ra'mond Brooks' Big Game Can't Quite Lead New Madrid County Central over Kennett

New Madrid County Central was the 64-48 winner over Kennett when they last played one another last Wednesday, but their luck changed this time around. The New Madrid County Central Eagles fell 71-61 to the Kennett Indians on Tuesday. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

New Madrid County Central's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ra'Mond Brooks, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards. Brooks has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Marvion Cranford, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards.

Even though they lost, New Madrid County Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive contests.

New Madrid County Central's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Kennett, their victory ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Madrid County Central will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Portageville at 7:30 p.m. on January 6, 2025. Kennett and Charleston will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Charleston is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.7 points per game this season.
