Basketball Recap: Wray Eagles vs. Akron Rams
Wray lost against Akron back in February of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Wray Eagles fell 47-38 to the Akron Rams. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while the Rams are ranked 98th).
Despite the loss, Wray saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Danyelle Davis posted 12 points and four blocks. That's the most blocks Davis has posted since back in February of 2024. Sawyer Fonte also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.
Akron found their leader in freshman Molly O'Neil, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds. Akron is 8-3 when O'Neil posts ten or more boards, but 2-5 otherwise. Kashlee Randel was another key player, putting up six points and four steals.
Wray's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Akron, their win bumped their record up to 10-8.
Wray wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 48-37 victory against Windsor Charter Academy on the 20th. As for Akron, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 55-51 loss against Caliche on the 21st.
