Softball Recap: Cathedral City Wins Going Away Against Desert Hot Springs

Cathedral City won the last time they faced Desert Hot Springs and things went their way on Thursday too. The Lions put the hurt on the Golden Eagles with a sharp 18-11 win. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won eight matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Sayuri Toledo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over 4.1 innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off four runs, three doubles, and four RBI while going 4-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Melanie Vargas, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with five RBI and one run. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Liliana Ramirez, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Cathedral City was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .526. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Cathedral City and bumps their season record up to 9-13. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Desert Hot Springs, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season.

Cathedral City will square off against Big Bear at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. Desert Hot Springs does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
