Baseball Recap: Thursday's Win Is Mount Airy Christian Academy's Fourth in Last Five Outings

It's playoff time, and Mount Airy Christian Academy had no trouble coming through when it counted. They walked away with a 9-4 win over the Rockbridge Academy Scots on Thursday. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 10-5 win last Monday.

Charlie Kichler made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out 14 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. He has become a key player for Mount Airy Christian Academy: the team is 8-0-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise.

In other batting news, Wyatt Davis was excellent, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

Mount Airy Christian Academy has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Rockbridge Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-7.

As of now, neither Mount Airy Christian Academy nor Rockbridge Academy have any future games scheduled.
