Softball Game Preview: Bishop Blanchet Bears vs. Garfield Bulldogs

Bishop Blanchet is 2-8 against Garfield since March of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Bears will take on the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. Bishop Blanchet will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Two weeks ago, Bishop Blanchet was able to grind out a solid victory over Cascade Christian, taking the game 6-3.

Meanwhile, Garfield had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-3 margin over the Roughriders. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 12 matches by eight runs or more so far this season.

Sammy Breckenridge tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Michelle Arimura, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordana King, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Garfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .486. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .346 or higher in three consecutive games.

Garfield's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Bishop Blanchet, their record is now 10-3.
