Basketball Preview: Chenango Forks Blue Devils vs. Waverly Wolverines
The Chenango Forks Blue Devils will head out on the road to square off against the Waverly Wolverines at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Wednesday, Chenango Forks came up short against the Sabers and fell 71-60.
Despite their defeat, Chenango Forks saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Stephen Samsel, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Walker Paske was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Waverly entered their tilt with the Purple Tornado with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Waverly managed a 59-55 victory over the Purple Tornado on Monday. Given Waverly's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 84th, while the Purple Tornado are ranked 312th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Chenango Forks has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Waverly, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.
Chenango Forks opened the new year with a less-than-successful 67-54 defeat to the Wolverines. Can Chenango Forks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
