Softball Game Preview: East Hickman County Eagles vs. McEwen Warriors

East Hickman County has gone a perfect 3-0 against McEwen recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. East Hickman County is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.

Last Friday, East Hickman County came up short against Dickson County and fell 6-3.

Candence Cochran spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, East Hickman County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Natalie Potts, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Sunday just wasn't the day for McEwen's offense. They fell just short of Waverly Central by a score of 1-0 on Sunday. The defeat continues a trend for the Warriors in their meetings with the Tigers: they've now lost three in a row.

Not much got past Ava Lastovka, who gave up just a hit and racked up 20 Ks to keep Waverly Central off the board. Those 20 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Lastovka.

East Hickman County's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for McEwen, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.

Everything went East Hickman County's way against McEwen in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as East Hickman County made off with a 14-2 victory. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
