Baseball Recap: Vance Charter Extends Winning Streak to Three

While Vance Charter's win against Warren County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Knights narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Eagles 5-3. Winning may never get old, but the Knights sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Austin Dethmers made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Dethmers wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Furr, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Julius Burke was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Vance Charter's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Warren County, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 7-4 record.

Vance Charter didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 12-3 defeat against Northern Durham on the 28th. As for Warren County, they have also already played their next game, a 17-0 win against Weldon on the 26th.
