Basketball Recap: Interlake Comes Up Short

Interlake lost against Mercer Island back in February and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Saints came up short against the Islanders, falling 60-40. The game marked the Saints' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Despite the defeat, Interlake saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ty Marcum shot 43% from the field on his way to 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Marcum has scored all season. Marquis Dolan was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and nine boards.

Interlake has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points over those games. As for Mercer Island, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.

Interlake didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 85-32 loss against Bellevue on the 17th. Mercer Island will take on Sammamish in a holiday battle at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Islanders will be up against the RedHawks' rather soft defense (which has allowed 62.88 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
