Baseball Recap: Bad Axe Comes Up Short

Bad Axe extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 5-19. They came up short against the Unionville-Sebewaing Patriots, falling 14-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Hatchets of the 18-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

As for Unionville-Sebewaing, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-10. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.7 runs over those games.

For Unionville-Sebewaing's part, Davis Peters made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Peters has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hunter Hartman, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Gabe Matt was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Unionville-Sebewaing beat Bad Axe by a score of 9-7 later that day.
