Baseball Recap: Waverly Wins Going Away Against Standing Bear

Waverly got themselves on the board against Standing Bear on Saturday, but Standing Bear never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Grizzlies with a sharp 13-0 win. Considering the Vikings have won four matchups by more than nine runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Brennan Miller was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Carsen Malcolm was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Trevor Roesler was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Waverly kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Standing Bear only managed two hits.

Waverly's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Standing Bear, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.

Waverly has already played their next contest (against Gretna), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Standing Bear, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 13-3 victory against Fairbury on the 7th.
