Softball Recap: Plum Extends Home Winning Streak to Three

Plum had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Burrell on Monday. The Mustangs' pitcher stepped up to hand the Bucs a 10-0 shutout. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.

Mackenzie Marotta made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two RBI.

In other batting news, Sydney Pici was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Danielle Pici was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Plum kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 13-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Plum pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Burrell, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-4.

Coming up, Plum will venture away from home to take on Deer Lakes at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lancers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.4 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of. Burrell does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
