Basketball Recap: Keys Gate Find Success

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Keys Gate and Marathon, and Keys Gate kept the tradition alive. The Knights blew past the Dolphins 80-60 on Friday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Knights also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2024.

Sebastian Matilla had an outrageously good game as he went 11-for-15 en route to 29 points. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in shooting accuracy (73%). Another player making a difference was Alex Rodriguez, who shot 70% from the field on his way to 18 points.

Keys Gate was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marathon only racked up nine.

Marathon lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Josh Koler, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 15 boards. Koler is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least nine every time he's taken the court this season. Taylor Huff was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 15 points and nine boards.

Keys Gate's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Marathon, they now also have a losing record of 1-2.

Looking ahead, Keys Gate will look to defend their home court on December 1 against Somerset Prep Homestead at 3:30 p.m. As for Marathon, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Coral Shores at 7:00 p.m. on December 1.
