Recap: Houston Christian Mustangs vs. Cooper Dragons
The Houston Christian Mustangs lost to the Cooper Dragons back in October of 2022, but The Houston Christian Mustangs didn't allow the Cooper Dragons the same satisfaction on Friday. Houston Christian enjoyed a cozy 28-14 win over Cooper.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Houston Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bret Kilchrist, who threw for 278 yards and three touchdowns while completing 82.8% of his passes. Anderson Jones was in the mix too, providing Houston Christian with two touchdowns.
When it comes to explaining why Cooper lost, one person who can't be blamed is Dean Calhoun. Despite the final result, he rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown. Calhoun is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played.
Houston Christian is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. As for Cooper, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Houston Christian will be playing in front of their home fans against Cistercian on Friday. Cistercian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 952nd, while Houston Christian is ranked 408th). As for Cooper, they will head out on the road to face off against Trinity Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Trinity Valley's favor is that they have now posted big point totals every time they've taken the field this season.
