Basketball Recap: Shafter Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Ian Gonzalez and Adin Cardenas

Shafter was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They received a blow as they fell 61-44 to the McFarland Cougars. The match marked the Generals' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Shafter's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Adin Cardenas, who posted 15 points in addition to six rebounds and three blocks, and Ian Gonzalez, who had 16 points and seven rebounds. Cardenas' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Diego Pompa, who put up five points.

Shafter's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for McFarland, they pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

Shafter won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against North at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for McFarland, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll face off against Bakersfield at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bakersfield knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully McFarland likes a good challenge.
