Mary Persons' loss ends 15-game winning streak at home

Recap: Mary Persons Bulldogs vs. Lamar County Trojans

It was a good run, but the Mary Persons Bulldogs unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 70-49 walloping at the hands of Lamar County. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Mary Persons has suffered against Lamar County since December 9, 2017.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jataria Hardy, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hardy has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoey Shannon, who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds.

Lamar County had a senior duo take command as Shakiria Foster scored 28 points along with seven rebounds and three steals and Zakiria Foster scored 17 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Foster has scored at least a third of Lamar County's points. Another player making a difference was Lauren Wilcher, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Mary Persons' defeat ended a 15-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-4. As for Lamar County, their victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-3.

Mary Persons will challenge Upson-Lee at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Upson-Lee is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak. As for Lamar County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Crawford County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Crawford County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Saturday.
