Softball Recap: Novato Hornets vs. Redwood Giants
Novato had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 6-16 to make it four. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Redwood Giants. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Giants this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-5 on April 1st.
As for Redwood, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games.
For Redwood's part, Novato's batters probably weren't too happy with Stella Belluomini, who pitched a no hitter and racked up nine Ks (she gave up three walks). With that strong performance, Belluomini is now averaging an impressive 5 strikeouts per game.
At the plate, Gia Meyers was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Novato will take on rival San Rafael at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Redwood is set to challenge their familiar foe Archie Williams at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Giants 3.6, the Peregrine Falcons 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
