Basketball Recap: Jenkins Falls Despite Big Games from Aniyah Browner and Taylor Young

It was a good run, but Jenkins unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They lost to the Calvary Day Cavaliers at home by a 46-32 margin. The Warriors lost against the Cavaliers in their previous head to head back in December of 2020, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 64-23 score last time.

Despite the loss, Jenkins had strong showings from Taylor Young, who posted four points and 15 boards, and Aniyah Browner, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. Young has been hot recently, having posted ten or more boards the last four times she's played.

Even though they lost, Jenkins smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 17 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Calvary Day had a senior duo take command as Bre Jones dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds and Destini Gooddine put up 15 points in addition to five boards and four steals. Jones also put up a block, which washer first of the season. Another player making a difference was Amahni Owens, who earned six points.

Jenkins' defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 9-7. As for Calvary Day, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-7.

Jenkins has already played their next game, a 68-15 win against Bethune-Bowman on the 18th. As for Calvary Day, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 64-35 loss against Grayson on the 20th.
