Softball Recap: Soddy Daisy Takes a Loss

If Soddy Daisy was riding high fresh off their 11-3 takedown of Hixson last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Soddy Daisy fell just short of the Floyd Central Highlanders by a score of 2-1 on Saturday. The Trojans were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the three games prior), but the Highlanders' pitcher proved too tough.

Izzy Webb spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits.

At the plate, Soddy Daisy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abby Faires, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Abby Pinson also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Soddy Daisy moved to 12-7-1 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Floyd Central, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-1.

Looking ahead, Soddy Daisy is taking a road trip to take on Graves County at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Floyd Central, they will take on White County in a tournament on Saturday. White County has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.71 runs per game on average), something Floyd Central will no doubt try to take advantage of.
