Basketball Recap: Holmes Comes Up Short

Holmes was the 50-35 winner over Hertford County when they last played one another last Saturday, but their luck changed this time around. The Holmes Aces fell 48-38 to the Hertford County Bears on Wednesday.

When it comes to explaining why Holmes lost, don't look at Chloe Chappell. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 34.2% of Holmes' points, marking the 13th time in a row Chappell has posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kate Foster, who put up eight points.

Hertford County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Karae' Alfred out in front who almost dropped a double-double with 12 boards and nine steals. With that strong performance, Alfred is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Brooklynn White, who went 6-for-13 to rack up 18 points in addition to seven assists and six rebounds.

Holmes dropped their record down to 8-13 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Hertford County, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-12 record this season.

Holmes wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 45-39 defeat against Northeastern on the 14th. As for Hertford County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 44-22 victory against Pasquotank County on the 17th.
