Basketball Game Preview: Vanguard Academy Knights vs. American Prep WV Eagles

Having just played yesterday, the Vanguard Academy Knights will head out on the road to face off against the American Prep WV Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Vanguard Academy has four straight wins, American Prep WV has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

On Thursday, Vanguard Academy had just enough and edged Logan out 41-39.

Vanguard Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Megan Young led the charge by putting up six points along with ten blocks and four steals. Young has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Amanda Gustafson, who posted seven points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Meanwhile, American Prep WV was beaten by Logan 46-9 on Monday.

American Prep WV got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Jahdai Espinoza and Sam Cruz, who each put up three points. Tabitha Hakim held things down on the boards with 11 rebounds.

Vanguard Academy's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-4. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 25 points. As for American Prep WV, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.

Vanguard Academy strolled past American Prep WV in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 by a score of 42-23. Does Vanguard Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will American Prep WV turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
